Carotenoids Linked To Fewer Hip Fractures
As a person gets older, the bones in their body begin to get a little easier to break. For a lot of elderly people this is most seen in the hip area. Carotenoids have been found to be a wonderful saving grace for those who are struggling with the loss of calcium and carotene in their diet and bones. In a recent study, that took almost 20 years to complete, researchers at Tufts University and Boston University have shown that certain carotenoids can actually lead to fewer hip fractures.

During the course of this study, it has been shown that a particular carotenoid, lycopene, has been shown to be more conducive to lessening the frequency of hip fracture. This protective affect is even more than what is seen in other carotenoid complex nutrients.
Protection In Food Form
It is great to know that many people do not actually have to spend more in their medication bills each month to ward off hip fractures. They can get the nutrients in a diet or supplemental program. Studies have shown that those who are ingesting at least 4 servings of the micro-nutrient lycopene show better protection against weakening bones, especially in the hip area.
Odds Are Better With Than Without
As people get older, it is a natural occurrence to see some of the most used bones become weak and unstable. To boost the entire skeletal system, the use of nutrients like lycopene, beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, and lutein plus zeaxanthin will help in the fight against osteoporosis and general bone failure. To put it in regular, everyday terms; the odds are better with these nutrients than without them.
